Walcha Hospital Auxiliary's 90th Anniversary
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—This year the Walcha Hospital Auxiliary will celebrate its 90th Anniversary. Since its founding on 18 October 1934, the auxiliary has raised funds to purchase items and equipment to support local healthcare. The Walcha Hospital Younger Set Auxiliary, a youth committee of which I was once a member, was formed on 7th December 1964 with Mrs Molly Hunt being an inaugural member. The two groups amalgamated on 12th July 2001 forming a stronger team of ladies who continued to volunteer under the banner of Walcha Hospital Auxiliary. Today, membership numbers are 29, ranging in age from their mid-20's to their mid-80's, indeed a diverse group. Molly Hunt has been their long-term Patroness along with Walcha Mayor, Eric Noakes as their Patron. The auxiliary's combined fundraising efforts to support their Local Health Service since 1964 have totalled $322,998, a wonderful combined community effort. These funds have purchased new equipment to make it easier for staff and patients alike. Congratulations to the Walcha Hospital Auxiliary, I am sad that I cannot join in the celebrations but send my deep appreciation for their long-term efforts for the community of Walcha.
