SHIHAN LINDSAY GUY

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Shihan Lindsay founded Guy's Karate School at Telarah Public School 12 years ago. During this time Lindsay has trained students for local, State, National and International championships. Students from Guy's Karate School make up close to half of all the members of the current Australian National Team. This record is due to the dedication and passion that Lindsay and his team display. One of the programs Lindsay has implemented in the Karate School is a Junior Leadership program. Students are given leadership responsibilities within the school, assisting with teaching and other tasks. As students graduate through the program, they grow, show initiative and increase their self-confidence. On graduation the students regularly become paid employees of the school, providing them with the skills and experience that can be added to their resume. Recently, Lindsay was inducted into the Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame for his contribution and dedication to The Martial Arts community over the last 40 years. Outside of the sport Lindsay has also served as a volunteer Surf Life Saver since he was 15 years old. I wish to acknowledge Lindsay's hard work and contribution to our community; he is most worthy of this recognition.
