Scott Melmeth
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to Maitland's Scott Melmeth who recently made his 100th donation of blood to the Australian Red Cross. I was recently contacted by very proud daughter Karleigha Melmeth, and I am grateful to her for informing me of her father's efforts. Scott has never sought the spotlight and it is people like Scott who are usually the unsung heroes. Scott regularly donates both blood and plasma and has been giving to his community for many years. Scott has proudly volunteered at Maitland City Council events for over 15 years, and he has passed this volunteering spirit onto his daughter. Blood and plasma donations save lives. Most donations are used to help people with medical conditions that require blood or blood products regularly. Over a third of all donations are used to help treat people with cancer and blood diseases. Donations are also used by medical researchers to develop and test new treatments for many medical conditions – such as blood clots, heart attack, stroke and cancer. Thank you Scott for your efforts on behalf of, not only your proud daughter, but the whole community.
