Makye Telfer
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to Makye Telfer who represented Australia in the under-18s men's softball team at the World Cup which took place in Mexico. Makye has been playing softball for almost a decade as a catcher. He is following in his fathers footsteps who also represented Australia in the under-19s level as a catcher. The two, in fact, still play together in first grade every Saturday. Makye's dedication to the sport of softball goes beyond the sport itself. He has worked part-time and has fundraised to pay for the trip to the tournament. The sport of softball requires all team members who attended the competition in Mexico, including players and staff to pay for themselves, including any new equipment that they may have need. As a former Maitland High School Captain, Makye's good character and sportsmanship, shone through on and off the field. The Australian team finished 5th in the tournament. Making the Australian team is undoubtably a reflection of years of dedication and hard work. Congratulations Makye and congratulations on your efforts and success in Mexico.
