KATRINA WIRTH - LOCAL WOMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD NOMINEE

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads) — Katrina Wirth was a recent nominee in the Maitland Local Woman of the Year Awards. Katrina has always had a passion to make a difference through community service. She was a pink lady auxiliary at the old Maitland Hospital and embraced her role providing directions, running the ever-popular lolly trolley, and supporting patients living with dementia. This led to Katrina volunteering with St John Ambulance where she has 6 years of service, including supporting the Maitland community during the July 2022 flood events, this voluntary role inspired her journey into nursing. Katrina also has a passion for education, assisting with the Tournament of the Minds competitions for gifted and talented students, and assisting local schools with their reading programs for struggling students. Katrina is the volunteer Academic Director for her university's nursing and midwifery student society. In addition, Katrina was nominated for the Australia Day volunteer award in Maitland and is most worthy of recognition as a valued and valuable member of the Maitland Community.
