Friends of Palliative Care Walk

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Roads, and Minister for Regional Transport)—Congratulations to everyone who participated in and supported the recent Friends of Palliative Care Walk at Maitland Regional Athletics Centre. This event is always a poignant reminder of our community's unwavering commitment to those facing life-limiting illness. Hundreds gathered, creating a river of purple shirts circling the track. Every step taken symbolised not just the kilometres covered, but the journeys shared with those needing compassionate end-of-life care. It was incredibly moving to see families walking in memory of loved ones, their faces reflecting both loss and purpose. Our dedicated palliative care volunteers also took part, momentarily stepping away from their vital roles to walk alongside the community they serve with such devotion. The event raised an incredible $25,142.61—funds that will go a long way in providing essential equipment and services to support patients with dignity and comfort. A heartfelt thank you to the Friends of Palliative Care Inc. committee, whose dedication ensures this vital service continues. Without these volunteers this support service simply would not exist. Your efforts change lives, and our community is deeply grateful.
