Evelyn Stonham

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Roads, and Minister for Regional Transport)—Congratulations to a true pillar of our sporting community, Evelyn Stonham, secretary and registrar of Maitland Junior Football Club, who has been honoured as a NSW Hidden Treasure. Evelyn's remarkable 40-plus years of service to football began in the 1980s when her son took to the pitch. Since then, she's worn countless hats — from team manager to secretary, competition fixtures coordinator, and state-level representative. Her dedication is most visible at the club's Fieldsend Street home, where she puts in long hours every weekend to ensure more than 100 teams, including 28 all-girls teams, can take the field. Evelyn has championed the growth of women's football, advocated for better facilities, and built lasting community connections. Her passion extends beyond the pitch — linking the club with causes like the Mark Hughes Foundation and Dolly's Dream following her son Matt's brain cancer diagnosis. A registered nurse, athlete, and tireless volunteer, Evelyn embodies the spirit of community sport and was recognised as Maitland Woman of the Year in 2024. Her work continues to inspire generations. Thank you, Evelyn. You truly are a hidden treasure.
