DR JANECE MCDONALD – NOMINEE FOR MAITLAND LOCAL WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Dr Janece McDonald works tirelessly for the community as President of the Maitland Regional Museum, National Trust member and organiser of Maitland Heritage Fest. Janece actively secures grants for museum events covering Seniors Festivals, equipment, school holiday heritage and science workshops for primary age children, has curated a number of local exhibitions, written numerous books and is a strong advocate for people with disabilities, and ensuring that our public spaces are accessible. Janece is active in the regional science group "Pi in the Sci" which supports disadvantaged students to achieve their best in the region's schools senior science studies. Her love and knowledge of science has also enabled the Museum to run science workshops and has provided "Museum in a Box" STEM packages for regional schools. Importantly Janece is someone who encourages others to collaborate together to maximise community participation. She is a generous and kind leader who has made a significant contribution to the cultural life of Maitland. Janece was recently nominated for Maitland Local Woman of the Year as a testament to her many years of volunteering in our local community. Congratulations and thank you Janece!
