Des Cross OAM – 95 Years

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Happy 95th birthday to a special member of the Maitland community, Des Cross OAM. Des is an active member of the East Maitland RSL branch, and at their regular meeting this month Des was given a surprise 95th birthday party by his fellow members. Des was presented congratulatory 95th Birthday Certificates from The Hon. Anthony Albanese MP Prime Minister, The Hon Chris Minns MP Premier of New South Wales, The Hon. Margaret Beazley AC KC Governor of New South Wales, The Hon. Greg Piper MP Speaker of the NSW Legislative Assembly and myself. Des is still extremely active within the community. He is involved in the RSL, Red Cross, Scouts and the Men's Shed. He is also still doing 3 days a fortnight as the local school lolly pop man, an absolute champion. Des Cross was awarded an OAM (Medal of the Order of Australia) on Australian Day 2013 for service to the local community of Maitland as a volunteer with various groups and organisations.
