Community Recognition Statement - West Maitland Centennial Lions Club

09 June 2022

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland) (16:12): I acknowledge the fantastic efforts of the West Maitland Centennial Lions Club. Its selfless members recently raised $4,000 from their Australia's Biggest Morning Tea function at the Telarah Bowling Club, with two awesome causes, Variety Hair with Heart and Cancer Council NSW, the major beneficiaries. The money will support those people who have, or had, the insidious disease. The club hosted a lucky door prize, stalls, raffles, guest speakers and lots of fun. A major highlight, however, was seeing president Wilma Lilley, Elizabeth Lilley and Lyn Dark each chopping off 30 centimetres of their luscious locks for wig libraries and to help build the fundraising coffers. All three displayed plenty of bravery to do that, especially so close to winter. From all reports I believe the day was fabulous, with 80 people in attendance. Full credit must go to Lyn Dark and Graham Dark, OAM, for working so hard to organise the fundraiser. I congratulate everyone involved in the very successful event.
