Community Recognition Statement - Rural Watch

09 June 2022

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland) (16:03): May 2022 marked the thirtieth anniversary of Rural Watch in Millers Forest and Duckenfield, a group that was formed to create closer ties with neighbours in its rural location, help form strong relationships with the police and deter criminals. Rural Watch prides itself on being neighbours looking out for each other. It is a welcoming group that encourages anyone moving to the area to get involved in its monthly meetings, with the group having a focus on building a sense of community. On 17 May the group hosted its thirtieth anniversary celebration, which was a huge success. It was a special milestone and represents decades of commitment to the Maitland community. I congratulate current president Gloria Green and members Bill and Pat Munton, who have been integral to the success of Rural Watch in Millers Forest and Duckenfield, with all three being members since its formation. At the very first meeting, Bill took on the role of inaugural president and Gloria the role of secretary. They are still around, and Pat Munton is now the secretary. I congratulate all members on the achievement of 30 years and their efforts to make our community safer and stronger.
