Community Recognition Statement - Detective Superintendent Chad Gillies

18 May 2022

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland) (17:56): I thank outgoing Detective Superintendent Chad Gillies, the district commander of the Port Stephens‑Hunter Police District. Chad Gillies came to Maitland at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. He brought new energy and enthusiasm to his role as leader of the police across Maitland and the broader Port Stephens‑Hunter command. I have seen Chad's genuine commitment to addressing social justice issues, such as antisocial behaviour; engaging with troubled youth; and, importantly, supporting victims and survivors of domestic and family violence, and sexual assault. Chad has demonstrated an incredible work ethic, an authentic engagement with the most vulnerable people in our community, and an open and transparent relationship with local community leaders, including me. Every time I meet with local police, the admiration and respect they demonstrate for Mr Gillies is visible. He has worked hard to get an upgrade to the aging police station at Maitland to make it a safer place for all who use it, including victims of crime, detainees and police. I thank Chad for his important contribution to our community at a difficult time, and I welcome our new superintendent Wayne Humphrey. I wish them both all the best for the future.
