Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—We have been having many issues with bus cancellations in Maitland in recent months, which I constantly raise with the Minister for Regional Transport and Roads. However I would like to congratulate the teachers from Rutherford Technology High who stepped up to fill the gap when buses failed to turn up to pick up students yesterday afternoon. Ben O'Leary and Lexi Fitzgibbons, supported by Craig Trotter, David Connaughton, Lidija Nenad, Leeta Campbell and a number of other staff who worked at the school answering parent phone calls were the heroes of the day. Ben and Lexi actually drove back to school, collecting the school's two buses to ferry students back to school, and then waited with them while they got more buses to get the students safely home. Under the leadership of Principal Simone Hughes, these teachers demonstrated the positive can do attitude of all the staff at the school in going above and beyond to ensure the safety and security of the students. I thank everyone involved for your tremendous display of dedication and care for our students!
