Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—Congratulations to Assistant State Secretary of the NSW Branch of the Transport Workers Unions Mr Mick Pieri on twenty years' of service to the members of the NSW TWU. Mick became a TWU NSW delegate in 1998 while working as a bus driver at Busways, becoming an official of the union in 2002. A key outcome of his work during this period was the successful campaign to have casual employees converted to full-time positions, which became a legal right in the bus industry. Mick became the Sydney and Central Sub-branch Secretary since 2012, and has been Assistant State Secretary since 2016. I commend Mick on reaching this milestone, but most importantly for his tenacity and his commitment to championing the rights of the members of the TWU NSW. His efforts on ensuring casual workers were given the opportunity to transition to permanent full time employment is an important issue as we face increasing rates of insecure work across all industries. We need strong unionists like Mick to not only hold the line but importantly to support workers in getting secure work.
