Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—Community sporting organisations are very important members of our social well-being and health promoting groups within the Maitland community. We know that the pandemic confounded their programming, fundraising and progress as community focused groups. Therefore it is with real happiness that today I congratulate the Maitland Hockey Turf Association upon the recent awarding of two grants under the 2021 Community Building Partnership Program. These grants will help support their return to post‑covid functioning. The Association received one grant of $12,121 for the installation of safety netting. The second grant of $9,000 will support the purchasing of essential hockey equipment. Team sports provide opportunities to learn and build skills, to develop expertise and to find out how we function within a team environment when we have shared goals. Community sports like hockey allow us to meet people from all over the region that share a common interest, while also helping us maintain healthy bodies and active minds. Our club has raised many champions including Olympian Simon Orchard. I commend the Maitland Hockey Turf Association and their role within our Maitland sporting community, and I congratulate them again on receiving these two grants to support their good work.
