Community Recognition Notice - Australian Red Cross

09 November 2021

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland)—I commend and praise the work of the Australian Red Cross, in particular their work over the previous two years in the wake of the encompassing devastation of the Black Summer bushfires of 2019/2020. In recognising the resilience of our NSW communities, and the efforts of many volunteers in response to the fires, the Australian Red Cross is highlighting the continued re-traumatisation of everyone who was impacted by the fires. I commend the Australian Red Cross for their wide ranging efforts to provide and deliver services to these individuals and the broader community. The Red Cross provides a diverse range of resources to help people manage their wellbeing after disasters. These resources are available in multiple formats and in multiple languages. The subjects matters include: Advice on managing distress, coping with a major personal crisis, helping others, and the preparation for possible future disasters. I commend the Red Cross and their volunteers for supporting over 40,000 people and for distributing $224 million via bushfire grants and recovery programs. The Red Cross remains a vital and valued community service provider in Maitland and across the state.
