Carol Peterson OAM

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—I extend my sincere congratulations to Carol Peterson on receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia [OAM] for her outstanding service to youth, particularly through Girl Guides. Carol has dedicated over three decades to empowering hundreds of girls and young women, helping them develop confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of community. From her early days as a Brownie and Girl Guide to her extensive service as an adult leader, Carol has worn many hats, including unit leader, district manager, and state board member. As the Coastal Valley Region guide shop manager and leader at Beresfield-Thornton, she continues to create opportunities for young girls to thrive. Carol's leadership has extended to large-scale events, including coordinating a zoo sleepout at Taronga Zoo for 1200 girls and leading snow trips to Perisher. Carol's passion for mentorship has also been recognised with the Girl Guides Australia Emu Award and Flowering Gum Award. Carol's dedication has left a lasting impact on countless young women, and the Maitland community is incredibly proud of her achievements.
