All Saints College Visit

Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—It was a real pleasure to welcome students from All Saints College, Maitland, to Parliament recently. The group of Year 10 Commerce students, along with teachers Nicholas Wall and Elizabeth Crawford, were able to watch question time in action while visiting Australia's oldest parliament observing democracy at work. Many of the students will go on to select other branches of HSIE such as Legal Studies and Economics in Year 11 so its great they get to hear where decisions affecting communities are made. All Saints' College, and I quote their website, has a long and proud history of providing Catholic education to the families of Maitland and surrounding areas for over 175 years. The school boasts many alumni who have made their mark in the world – actress Abby Cornish, fashion designer Luke Sales and, of course, the NRL Johns brothers, to name just a few. The tours of our NSW Parliament relate to the education curriculum where students engage in civics and citizenship education and learn about parliamentary procedures. I encourage all schools to take advantage of the tours.
