125th Birthday Maitland Golf Club
Ms JENNY AITCHISON (Maitland—Minister for Regional Transport and Roads)—Congratulations to Maitland Golf Club who recently celebrated their 125th Birthday. On June 12th 1899 sixteen enthusiastic golfers met to discuss the foundation of a golf club. Less than one month later on 8th of July 1899 an opening ceremony was held on a parcel of land in East Maitland. It was the beginning of Golf as a sport in the Maitland community and the club is the 14th oldest in Australia. One significant event in the club's history was the Maitland Golf Club and East Maitland Bowling Club amalgamated to for Easts Leisure and the building of a new golf clubhouse in 2004. The club commemorate the anniversary of the golf club with the publication of a book which built on previous books marking the 75th and 100th anniversaries of the course. Club patron's Joan Palmer and Harold Mayo featured in a celebration luncheon to mark the occasion. Congratulations to Maitland Golf Club on their birthday.
