Media Release - WOW! Its Wear Orange Wednesday

21 May 2019

Jenny Aitchison MP, Member for Maitland, is encouraging members of our community to say #thankyouSES on Wednesday, May 22 by proudly wearing or displaying the colour orange.
Schools, businesses, buildings and landmarks will all sport the bright hue this Wear Orange Wednesday, an annual event that supports our NSW State Emergency Service.
WOW Day is a national day of recognition of the 40,000 SES volunteers across Australia. Members of the public are encouraged to show their appreciation in a highly visible way - by wearing orange, the official colour of the SES uniform.
“Many people in the Maitland community have benefitted from the support and assistance of our SES volunteers during the past year,” Ms Aitchison said.
“I encourage all local residents to get involved in WOW Day and wear something orange to support this fantastic cause.
Ms Aitchison thanked the 228 NSW SES units throughout the state, which comprise approximately 10,000 volunteer members.
“Throughout the years they are there for us in times of need – fire, flood, storm or trauma. They deserve our heartfelt thanks. Who knows? Maybe more people will even join the SES if we show our gratitude properly!
"It's as easy as posting your orange photo on Facebook using the hashtag #thankyouses. This small token will show your appreciation of the many sacrifices our local SES volunteers make to support the community in times of need.”
Members of the community are invited to attend a Selfie Station in Maitland Park on WOW between 12.40 and 1.40pm.
