A new pedestrian bridge is underway at Tuggerah Station in the next stage of the major project connecting one of the busiest stations on the Central Coast to the Pacific Highway and making the station safer and more inclusive for all passengers.

The upgrade is part of the NSW Government’s Safe Accessible Transport program, to make public transport safe, inclusive and easy to use for all passengers - especially people with disability, older people, people with prams or luggage and others who might be experiencing mobility problems.

The Minister for the Central Coast, David Harris and Member for The Entrance David Mehan were on hand today to see the first of the precast planks installed which will include the use of cranes, concrete trucks and heavy plant and powered hand tools.

The upgrade, which started in June last year, includes new lifts and stairs, family accessible toilet and ambulant toilets, a widened platform around the entrance and the Boarding Assistance Zone for improved customer accessibility, and upgraded station entrances, including new and improved footpaths.

Fifteen accessible parking spaces will be made available in the commuter car park, and commuters will also benefit from upgraded bus stops and a dedicated drop-off zone.

Improvements will also be made to CCTV, lighting and wayfinding signage.

The upgrade, once complete will enhance connectivity between the station and the Tuggerah Precinct and improve the public domain.

The new lifts and concourse are scheduled to open to the public in September this year, with the remaining work – including platform canopies and demolition of existing footbridge and ramps – to be completed in early 2025.

Minister for the Central Coast and Member for Wyong David Harris said:

“The NSW Government is committed to ensuring all commuters enjoy safe, accessible and modern journeys daily.

“The upgrade is a major win for local commuters and visitors to arguably the busiest station on the Central Coast.

“The upgrade will deliver a station precinct that is fully accessible and amenable for the thousands who use the station daily.

“We want better connected public transport options on the Central Coast and this upgrade delivers that in spades.”

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchinson said:

"This station upgrade at Tuggerah is one of many the NSW Government is funding across the state to ensure equal access for all at our train stations under the Safe Accessible Transport program.

"The 2023-2024 NSW Budget allocated a total of $800.7 million over four years to implement the new program across the state.

“With a little more than 2000 trips at Tuggerah Railway Station every day in February this year, ensuring the station is a welcome and safe space for all is a top priority of our government."

Member for The Entrance David Mehan said:

Work is well underway on the Tuggerah Station upgrade, and the NSW Government couldn’t be more thrilled to share the progress with the community.

“This is a big upgrade with many features but one of the most significant will be the installation of new lifts and stairs and a new pedestrian footbridge, connecting the Pacific Highway and station platforms.

“The new lifts, stairs and bridge will help ensure all commuters travelling to, from and around the Central Coast region experience equal access.

“This has been a great win for our community, which we have achieved together.”
