Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison introduced a Notice of Motion in the NSW Parliament today calling on the Berejiklian Government to make urgent safety improvements to the Raymond Terrace Road and Haussman Drive intersection.
Ms Aitchison placed Questions on Notice in Parliament to investigate the crash history at the intersection of Raymond Terrace Road and Haussman Drive.
Roads and Maritime Services data shows that there were eight recorded crashes at or in the close vicinity of the intersection in the ten years to June 2018.
There were no fatalities but five injuries during that period despite six multiple vehicle crashes and a further two involving single vehicles.
Further information obtained from NSW Police has revealed that four Triple Zero calls were received for the intersection between July 2016 and June this year but no calls were made to the Police Assistance Line about crashes at the location.
Under the October 2014 change to crash reporting in NSW, motorists are advised when officers don’t attend the scene that legally drivers must exchange details and either call the Police Assistance Line (PAL) as soon as possible after leaving the crash site or if someone is later treated for an injury.
Anecdotal evidence from local residents is that there has been a rise in crashes at this location further proving the Berejiklian-Barilaro Government’s failure to provide infrastructure for a residential development hotspot in one of the state’s fastest growing cities outside of Sydney.
Maitland City Council plans to improve the Haussman Drive portion of the intersection but Raymond Terrace Road is the responsibility of Roads and Maritime Services, so as the local member I do have to question why something more isn’t happening at this intersection.
