Media Release - Roundtable to tackle Domestic Violence

26 October 2016

Shadow Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Jenny Aitchison, will be hosting a domestic violence roundtable in Broken Hill this Friday, 28 October, as part of her state-wide consultation process.

It is clear there needs to be a more strategic approach to ending violence in the home with more emphasis on prevention, early intervention and specialist frontline services for victims, that is informed by the many community and non-government organisations which have been working to reduce domestic and family violence and sexual assault over many years.

Since taking on the portfolio in March this year, Ms Aitchison has undertaken a state wide consultation tour to hear from services in rural and regional areas, including the Central Coast, Queanbeyan, Wollongong, Goulburn, Dubbo and Orange.

Ms Aitchison has praised the sector for their honest feedback about the specific issues that arise in regional and rural areas

The roundtable will be held at the Thyme on Argent Café and Function Centre, 218 Argent Street, Broken Hill between 10am-12pm and is open to all domestic violence stakeholders in Broken Hill and surrounding areas.

To RSVP for the event please contact Ms Aitchison’s office on maitland@parliament.nsw.gov.au or 02 49331617
