Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison has called upon the newly minted Minister for Customer Service to rule out any further cuts to Government staff in Maitland.
Ms Aitchison’s call follows news that Revenue NSW will become part of the Treasury cluster in the new-look Berejiklian Government suite of portfolios.
The move will exclude call centre staff, who will transfer to the Department of Customer Service.
Ms Aitchison said staff were understandably nervous given the Berejiklian Government’s track record in Maitland.
“Fifty-six staff were made redundant from the Office of State Revenue in Maitland during the restructure of 2018 and there was an expectation that many others would be required to relocate from Maitland to new offices in Gosford,” Ms Aitchison said.
“Of the positions that were made redundant, I understand many have since been filled with temporary staff. What happens to these people now?”
Ms Aitchison said that people in Maitland deserved job security and certainty.
“We are calling on the Minister for Customer Service to rule out any job cuts to permanent or temporary staff in Maitland, and for him to make those temporary positions permanent,” Ms Aitchison said.
Ms Aitchison said she had voiced concerns to the-then Minister for Finance, Services and Property, The Hon. Victor Dominello MP, in 2018, following news of public sector cuts affecting Maitland workers.
“Once again, the Berejiklian Government is displaying its lack of concern for preserving and creating jobs in regional areas such as Maitland,” Ms Aitchison said.
