MEDIA RELEASE - MAITLAND FAMILIES GIVEN FIRST LOOK AT FULL REDEVELOPMENT OF GILLIESTON PUBLIC SCHOOL

Early concept designs of the redeveloped Gillieston Public School available here.

The Minns Labor Government has released early concept designs of the redevelopment of Gillieston Public School, showing the community the size and features of the upgraded public school.

Progress on the redevelopment comes after NSW Labor campaigned from opposition for the school to receive an upgrade after hearing parents, carers and local’s concerns about the former Liberal and National government’s neglect of the school - even as the community continued to grow.

The full redevelopment will include new classrooms, a new support learning hub, new staff and administration facilities, a new library, school hall, a new canteen, a new Out of School Hours (OOSH) care facility, a new bus stop and kiss & drop facilities.

The school’s design will evolve through consultation with the community as the project progresses.

Gillieston Public School is also set to receive a new co-located public preschool through the Minns Labor Government’s historic $769 million program to build 100 new public preschools across the state. Gillieston Public Preschool will be a distinct space next door to the primary school with its own entry, and secure outdoor area with play equipment.

The community is invited to find out more about the project and view the concept designs at a drop-in information session from 2.30pm to 6.30pm on Monday 16 September 2024 at the library of Gillieston Public School via the Northview Street entrance.

This is part of the Minns Labor Government’s $8.9 billion investment to deliver a major pipeline of new schools and major upgrades to schools, including to regional NSW, after communities in the bush were neglected by the Liberals and Nationals.

Our commitment to regional communities is part of our work to ensure we are building stronger, better communities with access to high-quality learning facilities, no matter their postcode.

“The Maitland community has been calling for this important school to receive an upgrade for years, and it is wonderful to see the plans take shape.

“From here, we invite the community to join our information session and give feedback on the design before we get to work on redeveloping the school.”

“We’re thrilled to get a preview of our school’s future.

“The concept design gives us a clear indication of the modern facilities that will enhance our students’ learning experiences and school community.
