Ghosts of Our Colonial Past
Member for Maitland, Jenny Aitchison MP, today encouraged local residents to attend the annual Parliament of New South Wales’ Family Fun Day during the upcoming school holidays.
Ms Aitchison said the Parliament’s Family Fun Day on October 6th was a fantastic way for parents, grandparents and carers to entertain children during the school holidays and learn about how Australia’s oldest Parliament works.
“Family Fun Day opens sections of the Parliament not normally open to the public, and is a fantastic way for children and adults to see how the Parliament works from behind the scenes,” Ms Aitchison said.
The theme of this year’s event is Ghosts of Our Colonial Past with some very special ‘ghosts’ from the Parliament engaging and entertaining visitors with intriguing stories throughout the historic rooms of the over 200 year old building.
Now in its eighth year, the Family Fun Day will be as unique, entertaining and as fun as it has been in past years. The event is renowned for its highly entertaining theatrical re-enactments. Children and adults can visit the Legislative Chambers and take their seat on the benches.
Other highlights on the day include arts and crafts, story-telling, guessing competition, children’s trail, the Parliament’s 1967 referendum display and the opportunity to visit areas rarely open to the public.
