People with mobility issues or travelling with young children now have much easier access to the Grafton and Casino train stations following the completion of station upgrades.

Regional Transport and Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison said the NSW Government provided $1.9 million to upgrade the Grafton train station and a further $2.5 million for the Casino station to make them fully accessible to people with a disability, limited mobility, carers or parents with prams or customers with luggage.

“These upgrades are providing a better experience for public transport customers with more accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure,” Ms Aitchison said.

“We want public transport to be available to everyone and I am thrilled the upgrades to these historic stations are complete. 

“New accessible kiss and ride zones have been installed at the front of each station; the waiting rooms and ticket counters have been upgraded, as have existing accessible car parking spaces, while lighting, wayfinding and amenities like ambulant toilets have been improved.

“A new accessible ramp between the main entry and the platform has also been installed at Grafton along with new tactile indicators along the platform. Taxi bays have also been relocated and upgraded as part of this work.

“At Casino existing paths and ramps around the station precinct and sections of the platform have been regraded.  New tactile indicators have also been installed.

“All customers will be able to enjoy the station improvements, but those with disabilities or limited mobility will be the main beneficiaries of this work.”

Ms Aitchison said the $4.4 million budget for upgrading the two stations was funded through the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program.

“This program delivers a better experience for public transport customers across NSW by providing accessible, modern, secure and integrated transport infrastructure,” Ms Aitchison said.

“By making public transport more accessible, we will help reduce congestion on our roads, improve road safety and make a greener form of travel more appealing.

“It is a win for everyone.”
