Media release - Barbara is Maitland's Hidden Treasure

08 December 2017

Today the hard work of one of Maitland’s most dedicated volunteers was recognised as Barbara Heckman was placed on the NSW Government’s Hidden Treasures Honour Roll.

The Honour Roll recognises the outstanding efforts of female volunteers in our state and promotes the role of volunteering in our community.

Barbara has volunteered with a wide range of different community organisations including the Girl Guides, the Newtown Methodist Church and Maitland Meals on Wheels. Since moving to Maitland in 1984, Barbara has made an invaluable contribution to our community.

Barbara joins a growing list of more than 800 rural women who have had their generosity publicly appreciated as a part of the Hidden Treasures Honour Roll.

A full list of this year’s successful appointments to the Honour Roll can be found here.

Comments attributable to the Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison MP:

“The Hidden Treasures Honour Roll is a great way to recognise some of the hard working volunteers in our community. Barbara is a much loved volunteer and a worthy addition to the Honour Roll.”
