Putting Maitland first
The Hon. Jenny Aitchison was elected to Parliament to represent the Maitland Community in 2015 and was a Shadow Minister for a variety of diverse portfolios including Primary Industries, Investment & Tourism, Medical Research, Prevention of Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault, Small Business and Women from 2016 to 2023.
After the 2023 NSW elections, Jenny was appointed Minister for Regional Transport and Roads in the Minns Labor Government. In March 2025, following a Ministerial reshuffle, Jenny was promoted to NSW Minister for Roads and Minister for Regional Transport, expanding her portfolio responsibilities to include all roads in NSW. In Opposition, Jenny had served as Shadow Minister for Regional Transport and Roads since 2021.
Jenny has lived in and around regional NSW for most of her life, growing up in Canberra, moving to Walcha on the New England Tablelands, and then moving to Maitland in 2000.
Jenny believes that transport and roads in regional areas are a social determinant of education, health, jobs and opportunity, and are vital for resilience and social inclusion.
As an award-winning coach tour operator for nearly two decades before she entered Parliament, Jenny was a strong advocate for regional tourism and transport industries, serving on State and Federal committees and presenting to conferences of Bus NSW and the Bus Industry Confederation on issues such as resilience, environment, critical incident and safety management, disability access, increasing patronage, tourism and economic development, and the transition to the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
